About

The National Parks and wilderness conservation areas of Southern Africa present unequalled opportunities for the enjoyment of unspoilt nature. The huge variety of wildlife, botanical richness, geological features and scenery set in these vast regions, is unique. We were fortunate to have been able to travel through the Southern African wilderness with all its splendour and these photographs are an attempt to reflect the spirit of the wilds. The photographs contained in this site are the result of decades of this privilege and we would like to share some of these moments of magic with you.

All images have been recorded with the best quality photographic equipment, but resolution has been reduced for faster viewing.

All animals and plants were photographed in their natural, wild habitat and not in captivity, or cultivation. We strive to provide a true, unaltered representation of observed scenes, at all times. Original colours are retained as closely as practically possible.

Photographers
Riaan and Adelaide Wolhuter live in Stellenbosch, South Africa – 50 km from Cape Town. This is right within one of the most scenic parts of the country, surrounded by winelands, sea and mountains. They have a passion for all aspects of the natural environment of Southern Africa, with its wide, open spaces and huge variety of scenery, wildlife and plant life.

Riaan holds a PhD in electronic engineering and is a researcher at the Stellenbosch University, when not somewhere in the wilds taking photographs. Apart from being a superb photo spotter, photographer and travelling companion, Adelaide has a BA degree in languages and library science and an honours degree in Afrikaans literature.
